Woodley Kestrels History
Woodley Town Kestrels were
formed in 2003 with the majority of the teams transferring from
Woodley Zebras to start a youth section for Woodley Town FC.
During it’s short history, the club has become known as
a well respected outfit, enjoying their football the ‘Brian
Clough’ way.
Mark Redman, former manager, enjoyed great success with countless
small team league honours, culminating in a record number of
six wins across the South of England and now two players have
taken their football to a new level; Luke Redman and Jake Butler
are now enrolled at the famous Queen’s Park Rangers academy.
Like Mark, Chris Maxted’s small team dominated the seven
a side game in the Reading area. Their most successful player,
Jamie Connor is now in his second season with Oxford City academy.
Neil Wheelers has built a team following in the footsteps of
Mark Redman and Robbie Ridout’s seven a side squad has
joined forces with the main development coach Craig Sumner,
responsible for an impressive double victory in the league and
the league cup, playing on consecutive days in the Woodley and
Earley League on Saturday and the Chiltern Sunday league.
Woodley Kestrels have recently signed a Ladies section, fielding
one side in the U11 age group. This team will undoubtedly aspire,
with more girls playing competitive football than ever before.
